A Special Evening with Pi Capital & the Serpentine Gallery to celebrate the opening of the 10th Serpentine Gallery Pavilion designed by Jean Nouvel & exhibition by Wolfgang Tillmans, 2000 Turner Prize Winner
Wednesday 14th July 6:30pm, Hyde Park

Following the launch of the 10th Serpentine Gallery Pavilion, Pi Capital has secured the opportunity to be one of the first to host in this fantastic space.  This night will be a fantastic opportunity to be one of the first to see this year’s Pavilion and also to view the Wolfgang Tillmans exhibition in the main gallery.  Throughout the course of the evening, a leading Curator at the gallery will give a talk on the Pavilion and the current exhibitions.

In its 40th anniversary year, the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion is being designed by world-renowned French architect Jean Nouvel and will be his first completed building in the UK.  The Pavilion commission has become an international site for architectural experimentation and follows a long tradition of Pavilions by some of the world’s greatest architects. The design for the 2010 Pavilion will contrast lightweight materials and dramatic metal cantilevered structures. The entire design is a vivid red that contrasts with the green of its park setting and reflects the iconic British images of traditional telephone boxes, post boxes and London buses.  Jean Nouvel is responsible for the design of over 200 buildings the world over, including the Copenhagen Concert Hall (2009); the Ferrari Factory, Modena (2009); the Musée du quai Branly, Paris (2006), to name but a few.  In recognition of these buildings, Nouvel has been the recipient of architecture’s most prestigious honours, including The Pritzker Architecture Prize, 2008; the Royal Institute of British Architects Royal Gold Medal, 2001; and others. He was also made a Knight of the Légion d’Honneur in 2002.  His approach is characterised by a conceptual rigour, rather than by an overarching aesthetic. He emphasises research, analysis and discussion, creating designs that are highly individual to each project. A key part of Nouvel’s process is his embrace of other disciplines, including music, literature and the moving image.

Winner of the Turner Prize 2000, Wolfgang Tillmans has become one of the most prominent and influential photographers to emerge during the 1990’s.  He has redefined both the photographic image and the numerous ways in which it is presented in the 20 years he has been in the UK.  In this new exhibition, designed specifically for the Serpentine Gallery, Wolfgang, will focus on both figurative and the abstract in his work, and embrace a broad range of subjects; from the unconventional yet intensely eloquent portraits, to large-scale, colour-saturated abstractions that capture the beauty of photography’s chemical processes.  All his work has a dynamism and harmony, holding a unique place in contemporary art today.

Please bring your partners and spouses along to what will be a delightful way to spend a ’hopefully’ warm and bright summer evening in one of London’s most beautiful galleries set in the heart of Hyde Park.  To find out more information on The Pavilion and see mock ups of Nouvel’s designs please click on the link below.
