
I am pleased to be able to offer, through our special relationship with Policy Exchange, the opportunity to attend The Policy Exchange Party with guest speaker Boris Johnson, Mayor of London. The party is to celebrate the coming in of the new government and it will be an excellent chance to have a drink with some of the biggest names in todays politics. There will be a drinks and canapé reception between 6.30-8.30pm.
Boris Johnson has been the Mayor of London since he was voted in by over 1,000,000 Londoners on 2nd May 2008. Prior to that he was MP for Henley-on-Thames from June 2001 to May 2008 and was Shadow Minister for Higher Education and Vice-Chairman of the Conservative Party during that time. In addition to his political career he was also Editor of The Spectator from August 1999 to December 2005. He writes a weekly column forThe Daily Telegraph, and has published six books:Friends, Voters, Countrymen;Lend Me Your Ears,Seventy Two Virgins,Dream of Rome,Have I Got Views for You andLife in the Fast Lane: The Johnson Guide to Cars andThe Perils of the Pushy Parents, A Cautionary Tale. In 1997 Boris was voted "What the Papers Say"Political Commentator of the Year; in 1998 he was mystifyingly designatedPagan Federation of Great Britain National Journalist of the Year; in 2003 he was votedEditors Editor of the Year; in 2004 he was votedColumnist of the Year at the British Press Awards and in December 2005 What the Papers SayColumnist of the Year. He was voted Channel 4 News Award for the person who made the biggest impression on the politics of 2004, 2005. Boris went to Balliol College, Oxford and became a Brackenbury Scholar in Classics. He worked forThe Times,The Wolverhampton Express andStar before joiningThe Daily Telegraph, where he was successively a leader and feature writer, EU Correspondent, and Assistant Editor.
