Thursday 15th October 12:30pm, Mayfair

Pi will be co hosting this private lunch and viewing with Cheyenne Westphal, Board Director and Chairman of Contemporary Art.  Lunch will be served in the Boardroom, which has been designed by the internationally acclaimed architect and interior designer Peter Marino.  As well as an enticing menu, Sotheby’s will be sharing a selection of fine wines from their private cellar.  During the lunch there will be a short lecture by Alexander Branczik, Deputy Director of the Contemporary Art Department, on the current state of the art market.  The lunch will also present you with the opportunity to view works from Sotheby’s upcoming Contemporary Art Sale and Italian Sale with key department experts.  The Contemporary Art Sale will be auctioned on 16th October and the Italian Sale, which features key modern and contemporary works from Italian artists, is scheduled to be auctioned on 19th October at Sotheby’s New Bond Street.

In her role she is a key business-getter and client relationship manager for the most important collectors in Europe. She is known for her in-depth knowledge of the market and her longstanding expertise in Contemporary art. Cheyenne assumed her current role in January 2006 after seven years as head of the Contemporary Art Department in London. Under her supervision, the Contemporary Art sales have reached new heights; most recently she was integral to the success of the Damien Hirst sale, Beautiful Inside My Head Forever, which achieved a staggering £121 million. She oversaw the sale of Francis Bacon’s Study of Nude with Figure in a Mirror, which became the most expensive painting ever sold in Europe and the sale of Damien Hirst’s cabinet, Lullaby Spring, which briefly gained Damien Hirst the title of most expensive living artist. She joined Sotheby’s in 1990 having received a first class Bachelor’s degree in History of Art from St. Andrews in Scotland, and a Master’s degree in Contemporary Art from U C Berkeley, California. Cheyenne joined the Contemporary Art Department in 1992, was appointed head of the field’s European division in 1999 and became a Board Director in 2002.
