Pi Capital’s investment team works closely with members to source, evaluate, and structure investments. Investments are in a variety of sectors and can be both direct or fund investments. In both cases, Pi adds value by leveraging its high-calibre network.
Opportunities are often introduced by Pi members whose diverse professional and personal networks generate much deal flow. In addition, Pi has established strategic partnerships with leading investment firms which seek to benefit from the Pi membership’s depth and expertise. These partners present Pi with unique access to deals not typically open to individual investors.
The key feature of a Pi Capital investment is the intellectual capital provided by members to the deals. Pi members will step in to provide guidance on financial and commercial due diligence and share their expertise on how best to structure a deal in a particular field in which they have years of expertise. Often a Pi member may take a board seat (for direct investments) or an advisory role (more typical for fund investments).
Deals are presented to the full membership. Each member then has the right to opt in to any or all deals presented according to their individual investment objectives. Historically, Pi deals have predominantly been UK-based private equity deals, but the firm is increasingly looking to global opportunities and non-private equity opportunities. In terms of process, Pi Capital prefers to invest alongside a co-investment partner.
