Ambassador Liu Xiaoming has been the Chinese Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland since 2009.

He is a career diplomat and joined the Chinese Foreign Service in 1974. His Excellency was Second Secretary of the Chinese Embassy in the United States from 1989 to 1990 and First Secretary of the Chinese Embassy to the United States from 1990 to 1993.  He was Director of the Division of U.S. Affairs, Department of North American and Oceanian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His Excellency was also Minister (Deputy Chief of Mission) at the Chinese Embassy in the United States in 1998 to 2001.  He was Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vice Minister for the Central Foreign Affairs Office of China and Ambassador to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. He graduated from Dalian University of Foreign Languages, China in 1974 and earned a Master’s degree in international relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, U.S.A. in 1983. He received the Fletcher Dean’s Medal, the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, U.S.A. (2007). He also received the First Class Friendship Medal of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (2010).
